Our Misson & Values
Family Respite Care of Nevada was founded in 1995 as the Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation through an original federal grant focused on preventing child abuse and neglect by strengthening families under stress. What began as a pilot program has grown into Nevada’s only dedicated center-based respite care program of its kind.
Over the past 30 years, we have delivered more than 300,000 hours of safe, compassionate care to children and young adults with disabilities and their siblings. Today, we serve children ages 3 months to 28 years old, including children with disabilities, children in foster and adoptive care, and their brothers and sisters to ensure the entire family receives support.
Something to Truly Celebrate
The Giving Hand Tree celebrates 30 years of impact by inviting our community to leave a permanent handprint of support. Each donation level adds a new hand to the tree, symbolizing how collective generosity strengthens families raising children with disabilities. As contributions grow, so does the tree, visually demonstrating the power of community investment.
Family Respite Care of Nevada was founded through a federal grant, but today only approximately 30% of our funding comes from federal or state sources. The majority of our operating budget must be raised locally through donors, businesses, and community partners. With ongoing uncertainty in federal funding, sustaining our high-quality, center-based model including our 1:5 staff-to-child ratio and individualized care depends on strong
community support.
In honor of the more than 300,000 hours of respite care provided over the past 30 years, our campaign goal is $300,000 which is a powerful reflection of the relief, stability, and strength those hours represent.
